A little about myself
Welcome to my first web-site. I can tell you a bit about myself and my photography. My name is Dawn Stafford. I grew up in Kitchener, Toronto and Barrie.
In 1989 I moved to the Belleville area to finish my education as a teacher of the deaf. I only planned to stay for one year, but loved the Quinte area so much that I never left. I taught at the school for the deaf in Belleville for 27 years and will take an early retirement in July 2017.
I have many interests and hobbies. I love to cycle and was involved in several big cycling trips when I worked with the youth group in my church. I can hardly believe that I rode a bike to all of the places we went. Eash year we would practice then ride from Belleville to a different location....Pembroke, Montreal, Brockport NY, Niagra Falls and Huntsville.
I like to garden, do home renovations, read novels, watch sappy love stories, cook for my friends, cuddle my 3 cats and play guitar. My other passion is photography.
As a child I loved looking at our old family photo albums. I'd ask questions about people I'd never met and somehow felt I knew them. It turns out that my grandmother was a bit of a photographer herself. She died about 3 years before I was born, and I've been told I'm a lot like her.
I got a Vivitar 110 camera for Christmas around 1978. People commented that I had an "eye" for photography. I enjoyed capturing expression and activities on film. In my last year at the U. of. Guelph, I bought my first SLR with some Christmas money and what I could scrape together. I took photos for years just learning by reading books and critiquing my own work. In 1999 I bought my first digital camera. It was a point and shoot camera. Sadly, I lost the thrill of photography because I had no control over the settings. I took photos, but more snapshots than photographs.
I finally invested in a better camera in 2005. The joy was back! Eventually I needed a bigger "fix" so bought a real DSLR... and lenses.. and more lenses... and studio equipment... and took some classes.
I officially registered my company in 2010. Pics and Tweaks Photography is my company name. It's an odd name, but I came up with it because after going through all the photos in a photoshoot I would make a separate folder on the CD called, "Dawn's Picks and Tweaks" to let them know that the best stuff was in that folder.
I still love to try out new techniques and enjoy capturing people's history on digital film. I hope some day to have someone look at my photos and ask "Who was that? Tell me about them." Keeping family history alive, and it would be nice to know I can have a part of that. Please look through my galleries and contact me when you want to discuss any of my services. There is a price list gallery to let you know what's included with each fee. Thanks for checking out my site!
